Discover What You Should Sell
If you want to learn how to sell low content books on Etsy, the first thing you should do is to find the perfect low-content book to list on your shop.
There are lots of low-content book ideas you could use for your Etsy shop, but not all of them would sell.
This is because you need to focus on low content books with high demand but low competition.
Now, there are several types of low-content books being sold on Etsy: digital journals, digital planners, activity books, coloring books…But you need to niche down.
Let’s use e-Rank to find a good product to make and sell (you can use the free version).
Finding Your Niche
Sign up in e-Rank for free and type a possible product in the search bar.
I’ve chosen the keyword ‘gratitude journal’.
Let’s see what are the results that populate.
You can see that the primary keyword ‘gratitude journal’ is way too competitive.
So that’s why I’m going for a less competitive keyword like ‘gratitude journal for kids’, at the bottom of the image.
Study Your Competitors
If you are wondering how to sell low content books on Etsy, you should know that stalking (yes, STALKING) your competitors is vital to coming up with a good product idea.
You’ve already validated your keyword with e-Rank and now it’s time to see what others are doing to get an idea of how your product should look and what should be included in it.
So go to Etsy.com, type your chosen keyword in the search bar, and see what listings pop up.
Your mission is to discover what clients are saying about the products and how these look.
With all these insights, you want to create a better product than your competition based on their reviews.
So, take a few minutes to analyze your competitors and leverage customers’ feedback to see what they love and what suggestions they are making.
Make Your Low-content Book
My favorite tool to create digital downloads fast is Canva, which allows you to make graphic pieces even if you don’t have design skills.
Canva has an extensive library of graphic elements, fonts, images, and templates that can help you make your low content book in no time, so let’s get into it!
In this case, I will make a simple, 31-day printable gratitude journal for kids.
Let’s set up our file on Canva.
Go to Canva.com, sign up, and then click on ‘Create a design‘.
Type A4 and click ‘Letter (A4)’.
Let’s do the cover.
I will fill my cover with lots of cute elements, like a sun, flowers, animals, and other objects.
You can start adding graphic elements by clicking on ‘Elements’ ► inputting what you are looking for ► ‘Graphics’.
In this case, I want to add a sun.
Click on the object you want to add to your cover and repeat for all the other elements you want to include.
After adding all the elements, it looks like this:
Then I add the cover title by going back to ‘Elements‘, clicking on ‘Shapes‘ and adding the following shape to my file. Then I change the color and the border style:
Following, I add the title by clicking on ‘Text’ ► ‘Add a heading’. Then I play with the font and the colors:
Now, I’m going to create the body of the book.
For this, I will create one page with content and duplicate it until I have 31 pages with the same content.
This way the kid can write and draw on the book each day of the month.
First, I add a page.
Then I add the day’s tag and prompts so that the kid can write or draw what they’re grateful for with graphic elements and text boxes. It looks like this:
Now I’m going to duplicate this page until I have 31 pages.
Done. The book is ready! Now I can download it.
To download a file, go to Share ► Download ► (File type) PDF Print ► Download.
That’s it!
Now let’s create the mockups to showcase your product on your Etsy listing.
It’s pretty easy.
I’m going to create two images to showcase my product.
For this I go to Home ► Create a design ► Custom size, and I enter 2700 x 2025.
In the editor page, I go to Apps ► Mockups ► Print and I select an appropriate mockup for my journal. It looks like this:
Then I download the cover of my journal to add it to this mockup.
Go to your journal project and download it as images.
You can do this by clicking on Share ► Download ► JPG ► Select only page 1 and 2 ► Done ► Download.
Go to your mockup project and upload these images by clicking on Uploads ► Upload files.
Then select the cover of your journal and drop it over the mockup. Wait a few seconds. It should look like this:
That will be my Etsy thumbnail.
On a second page, I will add other mockups of the body of the journal plus other useful information to entice potential customers.
To do this, I go to Elements ► Frames ► I enter ‘rectangle’ and select it. Then I add it several times. I rotate them a little bit and add the image of the body of my journal and more elements. It ends up looking like this:
Now I have the images for my listing.
But Etsy recommends uploading a video too to attract more customers.
So let’s do it. It’s pretty easy.
Go to your first page and select it. Then click Animate ► Chill.
Done.
Now go to the second page and select all elements (hold right click on the mouse and drag it all over the elements). Click Animate ► Fade.
Now download the video as MP4.
It looks like this.
Your low-content book, images, and video are all done. Now you’re ready to make your first Etsy listing!
Set Up Your Etsy Shop
If you want to learn how to sell low content books on Etsy, setting up your Etsy shop correctly is crucial.
Get started signing up on Etsy.
Once you sign up, go to the profile icon ► Sell on Etsy ► Get Started ► Let’s do this; and reply to the questions Etsy asks to know more about you ► Start your shop.
Then, choose language, shop country, and shop currency, and name your shop.
As for your shop name, don’t think it too much: just come up with a short and easy-to-pronounce name that describes what you do.
Just avoid generic or complicated names! You can change it anytime.
These are some successful Etsy shops that sell low-content books to get inspiration from: ‘bittyandbark’, ‘LittleMelonPressShop’, ‘KWDigitalDepot’, ‘PitaPress’, ‘NissLovelyCreations’.
You can also use ChatGPT to get some ideas for your shop name.
Well, now it’s the best part: let’s make your first listing!
Crafting Your First Listing
Your listing is made up of different relevant sections:
– Photos
– Video
– Listing details
– Pricing
Photos And Video
This part is very straightforward because you’ve already created the photos and the video for your listing.
You just need to upload them and keep working on the next sections.
Listing Details
The key elements of this section are:
– Title
– Category
– Type
– Description
– Tags
The Title consists of different keywords that your potential customers type into the search bar when searching for a product.
The title has 140 characters available, so use them all! Include as many keywords as possible.
For example, a good title for my gratitude journal for kids would be ‘Gratitude Journal For Kids Gratitude Journal Digital Download Printable PDF Gratitude Activities For Children Boys Girls’
It may seem a little chaotic, but it actually works!
As you can see, you can make a lot of combinations with these keywords. For example, in the first part of the title, you can read ‘Gratitude Journal For Kids’ but then you can make a new keyword with the following words and get the keyword ‘Kids Gratitude Journal’.
As regards the Category, as my product is a journal, I type ‘journal’ and choose the most suitable option for the drop-down menu:
Then in Type, I select ‘Digital‘. This type of product cannot be returned due to its digital nature.
In the Description, you also want to include keywords naturally, describing what it includes and how it can be used.
Here, you can also make it clear that no physical product will be shipped to the customer.
A possible description for my product could be the following:
“Gratitude Journal For Kids
DIGITAL DOWNLOAD – INSTANT DOWNLOAD
Discover the perfect gratitude journal for kids, where creativity meets mindfulness! Nurture positivity in your little ones with our uniquely crafted journal, designed to inspire gratitude through vibrant colors and engaging activities. Elevate their emotional well-being with these thoughtful prompts, making learning gratitude a joyful journey for your child.
How are these daily prompts used?
1) PURCHASE the product
2) DOWNLOAD the file
3) PRINT IT and use it right away!
NOTE:
No physical product or printed materials will be sent to you. There are no returns due to the digital nature of this product.‘
Finally, in Tags, which are 13, you want to add more keywords, without repeating the ones used in the Title.
So for example, I could use ‘daily prompts’, ‘gratitude jar’, ‘mindfulness journal’, ‘gratitude planner’, ‘kids’, ‘prompt journal’, ‘gift for kid’, ‘cute journal’, ‘devotional journal’, ‘kids gift’, ‘daily journal’, ‘kids journal’, and ‘kids printable’.
I took them for the ‘Top Tags’ section from e-Rank when exploring the keyword ‘gratitude journal for kids’.
Pricing
To price your product, you’ll need to do a little bit of research.
How are your competitors pricing their products?
For example, gratitude journals for kids range from $1 to $3.
You should also take into account Etsy fees when pricing your product; calculate them with this tool right here. That way you can know exactly how much money you’ll make.
That’s it! Upload your PDF, set up billing and two-factor authentication and let’s follow the next steps to complete your shop details.
Complete Your Shop’s Sections
Next in this ultimate guide on how to sell low content books on Etsy, let’s complete your shop’s sections.
First, go to your Shop Manager ► Sales Channels (click on the pencil icon) ► Upload your shop icon.
To do your icon, you can also resort to Canva (thanks Canva for existing!).
So let’s open our free Canva account and click on the button ‘Create a design’ ► Custom size ► Etsy Shop Icon.
You can take whatever free template is available and customize it as you like. Mine looks like this:
It’s the same process for your Etsy shop’s banner. Go to Create a design ► Etsy shop banner and make your design. My banner looks like this:
Next, edit your shop announcement, which is like a welcome message for your customers.
You can add one by going to your Shop Manager ► Sales Channels (click on the pencil icon) ► Announcement section ► Add a shop announcement, add it and save changes.
Don’t worry about it too much; just keep it short and sweet. You can add more information about yourself and your shop in the About section.
In Sales Channels, you can scroll down to the About section and add one. You can talk about why you started your shop, how your products can make your customers’ lives easier, and share more specific details about your low-content books.
Don’t forget to add your Shop owner photo too!
To do this, go to Shop Manager ► Sales Channels (click on the pencil icon) ► Select the camera icon under your name ► Choose a file, then upload your file and save changes. Remember that a big smile will always attract more customers than a dull face!
Finally, add your shop’s policies by going to Shop Manager ► Settings ► Policy Settings. In this section, it’s important to make it clear that you don’t accept cancellations or returns as your products are digital.
Ready? Now it’s time to tell EVERYBODY about your products to start getting traction.
Market Your Low-content Book
No matter what product you sell on Etsy, be it Christmas ornaments, candles, digital planners, or low-content books, you NEED to share your creations on social media.
This is because you need to attract as many eyeballs as possible to your listings.
As you see, having an SEO-optimized Etsy shop is not enough!
You need to build brand awareness and harness the power of virality if you want to drive sales.
And the best social media to start posting are Instagram and Pinterest, both through a business account, which will allow you to analyze reach, engagement, and impressions and create ads inside the platforms.
To have a business account on Instagram, you need first to create a personal account and then switch to a business account by clicking on the three lines on the right side of your profile ► Settings ► Account ► Switch to professional account.
You can make posts featuring mockups of your low-content books or even videos and photos of them being used in real life.
For my gratitude journal for kids, I would post mockups of it and videos of my kids having a wonderful time completing the activities, with trendy audios.
I would also post educational videos explaining why kids should practice gratitude every day to increase happiness and eliminate stress and anxiety.
For Pinterest, I would post mockups of my products, but the process is a little bit different.
To get started on Pinterest, go to pinterest.com, sign up, and open a business account.
After adding your logo and cover, let’s work on your SEO.
In your About section, you need to explain what you do but with keywords.
To do this, think of your products and verify if they pop up in Pinterest’s search bar as related searches. Let the autocomplete feature do its magic and see what results populate:
Look at how many keywords people are searching for!
They are definitely searching for our keyword, so let’s include it in the About section.
Repeat this process until you have an About section with 5-7 keywords, like this one:
‘Your go-to place to shop gratitude journal for kids, kids daily planners, kids printable coloring pages, toddler printable crafts, printable puzzles, and preschool activity sheets! Visit my shop: [insert link]’
Now, as you probably know, a Pinterest account is organized into ‘Boards’ in which you store pins that are related to each other.
So, for example, if I create three different gratitude journals for kids, I would include them in a board called ‘Gratitude Journals For Kids’.
To create your first board, go to your profile, click on the ‘Plus’ button, and then ‘Board’.
Then name it with your keyword and hit ‘Create’.
Pinterest will ask you to save some pins to your board: you can save some unless and until they are complementary to your pins rather than competitive.
Finally, add a description to your board. You can do this by going to your board and clicking on the three dots next to the name and then hitting ‘Edit board’.
In the description, you want to add more keywords related to the primary keyword.
Remember the related searches when typing ‘gratitude journal for kids’? This is a good moment to use 5-7 of them! (use them exactly as they appear on the results).
The description of my board would look like this then:
‘This board is all about gratitude journal for kids, kids gratitude journal, gratitude journal prompts for kids, gratitude journal for kindergarten, and gratitude journal for kids printable!’
Now that you have your first board, you can upload your first pins.
The dimensions for Pinterest pins are 1000 x 1500 px and you can easily make them on Canva.
Simply go to Canva and click on Create a design ► Pinterest Pin (1000 x 1500 px).
Once it’s ready, upload it to your board by going to your board and clicking on the ‘Plus‘ button ► ‘Pin‘.
Upload your pin and add a title, a description, and the link to the Etsy listing.
For the title include a pair of relevant keywords separated by a vertical bar, such as ‘Gratitude Journal For Kids | Gratitude Journal Prompts For Kids‘.
For the description, you also want to include your main keywords and secondary keywords, as in the following example:
‘Kids need to practice gratitude every day to grow healthy and eliminate early symptoms of anxiety. With this gratitude journal for kids, your children will explore mindfulness through gratitude journal prompts for kids that are specially designed for kids wellness and mental health. Order now your kids gratitude journal on our Etsy shop!’
Then, include the link to the listing on Etsy and hit ‘Publish’ or schedule the pin for another day. It’s that easy!
Keep adding pins and study the analytics to make more of the pins that worked well to drive more traffic to your Etsy shop.
Keep Adding Listings
If you want to make money on Etsy, having only one listing on Etsy won’t cut it.
To launch your shop, make sure you have AT LEAST five listings to get started.
Remember that the more listings you have on your Etsy shop, the more likely you are to increase exposure.
The best part is that Etsy gives a little boost to every new listing to see how it performs!
So keep adding related and new products. Having around 100 listings is the sweet spot.

FAQs: How To Sell Low Content Books On Esty
Can You Make Money Selling Low Content Books?
Yes, you can certainly make money selling low-content books.
On Etsy, there are several shops whose owners make six figures by selling low-content books, and the best part is that they can keep almost 100% of profits because they don’t have to deal with shipping or labor costs.
What’s more, you can make a printable book and sell it multiple times, creating a passive source of income that you can scale by creating new listings.
Are Low Content Books Profitable?
Yes, low-content books are highly profitable.
Top sellers on Etsy make between 3,000 to 10,000 per month selling digital products on their shops and to get these numbers you need to be willing to put all your time and effort into establishing your business.
Don’t expect to get rich overnight with Etsy.
As with any serious business, you need to dedicate part of your week to updating your shop, replying to inquiries, adding new listings, and marketing your products.
Do You Need A Copyright For Low Content Books?
No, you don’t need a copyright for low-content books, because they are copyrighted as soon as you create them.
If you want to protect your work though, you can include terms of use in your shop’s policies and your products’ description where you explain that the product is intended for personal use only and that distribution, reproduction, and reselling of the product are strictly prohibited.
As for the mockups of your product, avoid showing ALL pages of the product so competitors cannot copy the text. You can also block part of the text with graphic elements.
How Many Items Should I Have Before Selling On Etsy?
You should have at least five items before selling on Etsy.
Most Etsy sellers launch their shops with five to twenty items, so that’s a good place to start.
This way you can provide a variety of products to cater to different customer needs and see what sells and what needs to be refined or changed altogether.
Now, focus on creating quality listings. It’s ok to fill your shop with your items to appeal visually to customers, but, if your products don’t live up to their expectations, your business will suffer.
Put all your efforts into creating something that really solves your customers’ pain points instead of pumping listings into your shop mindlessly.
How Often Should You List On Etsy?
You should list on Etsy every couple of weeks, although this frequency may vary according to your niche and your production times.
Again, don’t pump listings into your shop just for the sake of it. You want to add new listings when you have new products to test or to complement an existing range of items.
The key here is to sell relevant items and to be consistent with your posting times.
Make sure to update old listings once a week though. This will help perform better on rankings.
How Long Does It Take To Sell On Etsy?
Getting your first sale on Etsy could take you one week or up to six months.
As everybody’s journey is different, it’s impossible to set a specific period of time to make your first sale.
It would greatly depend on various factors, like if you already have an audience, how good your products are, if your SEO is on point, how many listings you have, and if your shop sections are 100% complete.
Take into account that Etsy takes up to three months to understand what you are trying to sell and put your items in front of ideal customers.
If you want to speed up the process, read my blog on how to get your first sale on Etsy for some valuable tips and tricks.
